Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) joined Kabale University today, 4 September 2026, in celebrating the distinguished career of Prof. Joy Constance Kwesiga at her official handover ceremony as Vice Chancellor. Prof. Kwesiga retired at the end of June 2026 after leading the institution since November 2005.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Patrick E. Kyamanywa, attended the ceremony in person, a gesture that reflects the depth of the relationship between the two institutions and Uganda Martyrs University’s regard for Prof. Kwesiga’s contribution to higher education in Uganda.
Over close to 21 years at the helm, Prof. Kwesiga’s leadership shaped Kabale University’s institutional growth and strengthened its standing within Uganda’s higher education sector. Her tenure was marked by sustained engagement with peer institutions, including Uganda Martyrs University, in pursuit of shared goals around academic excellence, institutional collaboration, and the advancement of higher learning in the country.
Prof. Kyamanywa’s presence at today’s ceremony underscores Uganda Martyrs University’s continued commitment to fostering strong, collaborative relationships across Uganda’s university sector, relationships built on mutual respect, shared institutional values, and a common purpose in advancing the quality of higher education nationally.
As Kabale University turns the page to a new chapter of leadership, Uganda Martyrs University extends its heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Joy Constance Kwesiga on a distinguished and impactful career, and reaffirms its goodwill and continued partnership with Kabale University going forward.
