Fort Portal Campus

Uganda Martyrs University Fort Portal Campus, situated on the hills of Kinyamasika and Virika along the Fort Portal-Kasese road, serves as a hub for engineering, technical and counselling education in Western Uganda. Established in 2014, it is one of UMU’s campuses created to bring services closer to the people. The Campus houses the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, alongside Bishop Magambo Counsellor Training Institute and St. Joseph’s Technical Institute, along with selected programmes from other University faculties.
The Campus hosts programmes across Business Management, Information Technology, Engineering and Applied Sciences, Agriculture, Education, and Health Sciences. The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences trains students in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Water Engineering with a focus on practical, industry-relevant skills. St. Joseph’s Technical Institute, running since 1922, and Bishop Magambo Counsellor Training Institute, established in 2003, offer BTVET and counselling psychology programmes respectively.
Graduates from Fort Portal Campus are prepared for careers across government agencies, private consulting firms, NGOs, research institutions and self-employment. The Faculty’s research agenda centers on resilient infrastructure, climate-smart agriculture, clean energy and industrialization. Bishop Magambo Counsellor Training Institute additionally runs self-help support groups, consultancy services, and community outreach programmes addressing mental health across the wider Kabarole region.
