Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its students at the annual Roots Africa Symposium 2026, held yesterday in Gulu, where they demonstrated knowledge, innovation, confidence and the courage to compete and lead.
UMU emerged with two awards at the symposium. In the Roots Africa Quiz Competition 2026, Musana Rodney Pius, a Year Two student pursuing a Bachelor of Agriculture, emerged as First Runner-Up, placing UMU among the top performers in the competition.
Rodney competed alongside fellow UMU students Lometo Gabriel Junior (Year Two, Bachelor of Agriculture), Odeke Samuel (Year Three, Bachelor of Agriculture), and Kiwanuka Achilles (Year Two, Bachelor of Agriculture), whose participation contributed to UMU’s strong representation in the competition.
In the Roots Africa Pitch and Exhibition Competition, UMU emerged Second Runner-Up, earning a cash prize of USD 250 for its Pearl Avocado Oil business. The achievement is a reflection of the creativity, entrepreneurial spirit and practical application of knowledge that UMU seeks to nurture among its students.
These achievements go beyond the awards themselves. They speak to an education that equips students to think critically, solve problems, communicate ideas and transform opportunities into solutions with real-world value.
