Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi on Monday hosted the Uganda Vice Chancellors Forum (UVCF) 2026, bringing together Vice Chancellors and Heads of Institutions from across the country for a day of shared reflection on the future of higher education in Uganda.
Rather than a review of enrolment figures or rankings, the day’s discussions turned on the harder questions facing the sector: quality, relevance, research capacity, and the shape of the graduate the country needs next. Since 1997, the Forum has played this role, moving universities from isolated institutional interests towards shared responsibility informing policy, setting standards, and reflecting on what higher education in Uganda is for. It is work that asks institutions built to compete to cooperate instead, on questions no single university can answer alone.
In hosting this year’s conversation, UMU underscored a belief that its role in Uganda’s education landscape goes beyond forming graduates, extending also to helping form the sector itself.
Once the day’s sessions drew to a close, that same spirit of hospitality carried into a guided tour of the University’s facilities, as the visiting Vice Chancellors and Heads of Institutions took in the campus at Nkozi. Delegates visited the University Library, the Chapel, the Faculty of the Built Environment (FOBE), and the University Radio, before departing.
To every Vice Chancellor, Head of Institution, and delegate who joined the Forum, Uganda Martyrs University extends its thanks for the trust placed in it to host this gathering. As the University noted in closing out the day, the work of shaping higher education in the country does not end when a meeting does — it continues from here.
