World Environment Day (WED), observed worldwide annually on 5th June since its establishment in 1973 by the United Nations General Assembly, is aimed at raising awareness and promoting actions that enable the sustainability of the environment, for the people and the planet. In 2026, the event theme rallied people around the urgency of climate action to stem rising temperatures, collapsing ecosystems, and disruptive weather extremes, the contemporary eminent threats to the survival of species, including humans.
