Uganda Martyrs University Alumni Association (UMUAA) has appreciated exemplary Alumni during the Inaugural edition of the Outstanding Alumni Awards 2022 that took place at Pope Paul Memorial Hotel in Lubaga on Saturday 26th February 2022. A total of 24 Outstanding Alumni were awarded in various categories and also recognized as Diamond ambassadors of Uganda Martyrs University (UMU).
At the same event, Centenary Bank was recognized as the outstanding employer of UMU graduates while Mr. Ssenyonjo Vincent Maurice Mukasa was recognized as the outstanding parent having educated over five of his children at UMU, besides being one of the pioneer lecturers at the Main Campus Nkozi in 1993.
Notably among the 24 Awardees was Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister of Uganda whose award will be presented physically to her at a later date by the UMUAA executive given the fact that she was unable to attend having been away on official duties.
The Chairperson, UMU Governing Council, His Lordship Sanctus Lino Wanok who represented the Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Joseph Antony Zziwa expressed gratitude to the Alumni of Uganda Martyrs University for keeping the UMU candle burning and contributing immensely to the development of their communities, Country and the World at large. He expressed hope that the University will become even stronger if they continue working together.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Patrick Edrin Kyamanywa was very grateful to the UMUAA executive for mobilising their fellow Alumni and ensuring that they contribute to their Alma Mater.
” Let us continue doing this with virtue and make a difference. The Alumni are one of the strong pillars on which the University stands,” he said.
He requested them to find time and come back to the University, share their experiences, give lectures and inspire the current students at the various UMU campuses.
Prof. Kyamanywa added, ” What can we do together for Uganda Martyrs University? This is a question that I leave to each one of you to answer.”
He requested the Alumni to keep fuelling the fire that they have started and make UMU even greater and stronger.
The President of Uganda Martyrs University Alumni Association (UMUAA), Ambrose Kibuuka Mukiibi, expressed joy to his fellow Alumni for their commitment to ensuring that they give back to their Alma Mater.
He launched three projects that include; the UMU Law Block Bag of Cement Project where UMUAA has contributed 400 bags of cement already besides the individual pledges that were made by the Alumni.
He also launched the UMUAA SACCO Project and the UMUAA Tracer study project.
The event closed with the sharing of the Alumni cake.
