Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) has launched a Mini Exhibition dubbed; ‘ Church and State: Photographs in the Footsteps of Uganda Martyrs’. The Mini Exhibition which took place on 26th May 2023 at Lubaga Campus was officially opened by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Hon. Nobert Mao who is also an Alumnus of UMU.
He congratulated UMU for starting such an initiative that is going to help give a voice to the voiceless.
“We need to accept that we need to have some difficult conversations so that we can move forward well as a Country. I appreciate UMU for preparing grounds for this,” Hon. Mao said.
The Deputy Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Wagwa Nsibirwa reminded the public that the challenges that Countries face today are as a result of leaders who focus on dividing the masses instead of uniting them. He therefore called upon fellow leaders to always focus on helping humanity and activities of substance.
UMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Edrin Kyamanywa explained that this Mini Exhibition was intended to recast the co – existence of and interplay between the Church and state in the development of our Country as part of the activities for celebrating UMU’s 30th Anniversary which will officially held on 18th October 2023 at the Main Campus Nkozi.
The event also had panel discussions which were graced by; Rev. Fr. Dr. John Vianney Kitooro, Dr. Maggie Kigozi, Dr. Lillian Nabulime and Mr. Maurice Mugisha who was the moderator.
The exhibition was initiated by; Prof. Derek Peterson and Dr. David Tshimba and sponsored by; UBC TV, the University of Michigan in the USA and Kampala Archdiocese.
