UMU qualifies for the 2022 University Football League finalsMichael Abwoli
The 2017 champions, Uganda Martyrs University, have stormed the finals of this year’s University Football League (UFL). At Nkozi playground, the UMU saints defeated Uganda Christian University (UCU) on penalty shootouts.
Entering the match on Thursday afternoon, UMU needed a win against UCU to capture a spot for the final for the 2022 University football league.
The team didn’t hold back and gave the fans a dominant and mouth- watering performance with UMU star, Sunny Kaija scoring a goal in the 67th minute, to cancel out the 1 goal deficit they had suffered in the first leg at the UCU playground. This only meant the game was all squared, and was not yet over with.
To settle the score between the 2017 champions (UMU) and the current reigning champions (UCU), the game had to progress into penalty shootouts after the 90 minutes draw, where UMU emerged victorious, beating UCU 5-4 to progress to the finals.
UMU becomes the 1st team to qualify for the 2022 UFL finals and as it stands, they await to see which opponents they will face in the finals, in a battle between MUBS and St. Lawrence University, scheduled for Tuesday 1st November, 2022, and live on Urban TV, Wan Luo TV and Bukedde TV.

I want to thank in a special way The Management of UMU for the support always, the staff that have always been there for the welfare of the team, the lecturers, those that have been coming through to cheer up the SAINTS, led by Ssali Roselyne and all those that have sent in their prayers for the success of the Team.
We went through to the finals of the University Football League 2022 and we are aiming for the prize”
