UMU COMMITS TO SUPPORT PhD STUDENTS

Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Patrick Edrin Kyamanywa has promised to give
the necessary support to PhD students to enable them graduate in the required timeframe. He however
challenged them to develop the characters of Persistence, Humility and Discipline (PHD) if they are to
attain their Doctoral studies.
Prof. Kyamanywa made the remarks in a meeting with the Graduate Students that was organized by the
Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, Research and Enterprise (DPSRE) at the Main Campus Nkozi, where
they turned up in big numbers.
“The main aim of inviting you here was to interact and know where the potholes and roadblocks are and
together we find solutions such that you complete your studies”, he said.
The Vice Chancellor also appreciated them for giving UMU an opportunity to contribute to their
professional growth. He added that as an institution, UMU is committed to help them achieve the 4Cs
of; Character, Competence, Confidence and Creativity which will enable them apply their PhD
knowledge during and after completion of their studies.
The Acting Director, Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, Research and Enterprise, Dr. Robinah S.
Nakabo appealed to the graduate students to always keep in touch with the Directorate because staff
will be available to help them achieve their desired goal.
Issues discussed included; the state and quality of supervision, how and where to publish, financial and
ICT matters among others. A similar meeting will be held with Supervisors and Heads of Faculties on
Tuesday, 24 th January 2023 at UMU Lubaga Campus.

    Quite true not only PhD students need to execute humility, patience, hardworking and self discipline but also have a sense of the fear of God. we- should integrate knowledge and Prayer concomitantly. however, this should not be only to PhD students but also to all the students at every level of their pursuits
