Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) are the Champions of the Pepsi University Football League after winning St. Lawrence University 1- 0 in the final match that took place on Saturday, 12th November 2022 at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Uganda Martyrs University Football team – UMU Saints faced their opponents without fear in a tensely watched game that was attended by UMU Management, staff, students and the neighbouring Nkozi community who turned up in big numbers to support their Saints play.
Before the UMU Saints team set off for their final encounter, they attended Mass at the Main Campus Nkozi and were blessed for the game.
Journeying through the finals, Uganda Martyrs University finished top of Group E with 12 points after winning four games and drawing twice.
In the quarterfinals, UMU eliminated Bugema University 3-2 on aggregate, the first leg ended 1-1 in Bugema before Uganda Martyrs University won the second leg 2-1 in Nkozi.
Uganda Martyrs University faced defending champions UCU in the semifinals and won 5-4 in the penalty shootouts after a 1-1 draw on aggregate.
This is the second time Uganda Martyrs University has won the UFL title with the first one being in 2017 when UMU defeated two-time Champions MUBS 2-0.
