Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) hosted a delegation from TEXOL Energies Ltd for a meeting exploring the foundations of a strategic partnership centred on environmental sustainability, agriculture, and research collaboration.

The meeting, attended by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, the Directorate of University Advancement and Executive Operations (DUA & EO), the Estates office, the Public Relations Office, the Personal Assistant to the Vice Chancellor, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, the University Farm Manager, and members of the TEXOL team, marked the latest step in a relationship.

A Garden Project with Environmental Purpose
<\/strong>
TEXOL, an oil marketing company marking four years of operation with roughly 15 fuel outlets across the country, has in recent years diversified into agriculture including what it describes as the largest Hass avocado farm in Uganda, spanning approximately 2,500 hectares across Mayuge, Najjembe and Kabale.

As part of an initiative designed to mitigate the environmental impact of its core fuel business while promoting nutrition, TEXOL has donated Hass avocado seedlings to over 50 institutions across the country. Uganda Martyrs University is now among the beneficiaries of this garden project.

Beyond Avocados: A Broader Business Ecosystem
<\/strong>
Representing TEXOL, Tonny Tosha, the Marketing and PR Executive shared the company’s growth story and outlined its wider portfolio, which includes a bakery, a poultry operation (KUKU Chic), an animal feeds business, and a production factory in addition to its fuel outlets and avocado farming operations. TEXOL also sources avocado from local growers, supporting smallholder farmers in the process.

He also noted that there is significant scope for collaboration between the two organisations, particularly in research and green energy, and pointed to the depth of expertise within the University as a valuable resource for future joint work.

University Leadership Welcomes the Partnership
<\/strong>
Rev. Dr. Christopher Mukidi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, welcomed the TEXOL delegation and shared the history of Uganda Martyrs University, expressing enthusiasm about the potential for the relationship to grow. He noted the importance of the Directorate of University Advancement and Executive Operations exploring how to take the discussions further, and floated the possibility of structured internship opportunities for UMU students with TEXOL.

Dr. Gerald Lubega, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, welcomed the guests and expressed interest in securing additional trees and seedlings to benefit the Faculty specifically.

The engagement concluded with tree planting with students from the faculty of Agriculture and both parties expressing optimism about the partnership’s potential to grow beyond the initial garden project into a broader collaboration spanning agriculture, research, green energy, and student engagement. Uganda Martyrs University looks forward to advancing these discussions in the coming months.
