RUFORUM Annual General Meeting 2025

The 21st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of RUFORUM is scheduled to take place from 1st to 5th December 2025 in Gaborone, Botswana, under the theme “Positioning Africa’s Universities and the Higher Education Sector to effectively impact development processes on the continent.”  This premier gathering brings together representatives from member universities, policymakers, research partners, and other stakeholders across Africa to share insights on how higher education institutions can contribute meaningfully to agricultural transformation, human capital development, and the Sustainable Development Goals. The programme features a rich schedule of high-level dialogues (including Africa-Europe and Africa-North America discussions on higher agricultural education, science and technology), ministerial and university leadership meetings, technical sessions on resilient agri-food systems, AI and data science trends, and a business meeting for the network’s governance agenda.  For UMU, attendance offers a valuable opportunity to engage in strategic partnership building, showcase its institutional strengths, and align its programmes with continental frameworks for agriculture, education and innovation. Considering the broad reach of RUFORUM covering some 175 universities across 40 countries , participation places UMU at the forefront of the collaborative drive to re-shape how African universities respond to development challenges.
